Despite it's unavoidable similarity to the horrors of the holocaust of nazi Germany, we have somehow convinced ourselves that forcing millions of animals into gas chambers is one of the more humane ways to kill sentient beings. I think this stems from the fact that this method hides the actual act of killing from view. A live animal goes into a big steel box, a dead animal comes out. No blood, no violence - it almost feels like the act of killing has somehow been removed entirely.
But what does the animal really go through inside these gas chambers? Do they calmly drift off to sleep as many would like to believe? Or is it actually just as cruel and terrifying as any other method of slaughter?
When activists finally managed to place cameras inside the chambers themselves, we finally got our answer - you can judge for yourself whether it's humane or not in the footage found below. Once you've viewed it, ask yourself a question. When your time comes would you be happy to die this way? Would you perhaps euthanise a sick pet using this method? If gassing animals to death is a humane act then the answer to these questions should be yes. Are they?
You'll find both short and longer versions of the footage below. I personally urge to watch the longer one to
try and connect with the fact that these acts are a constant, ongoing and never-ending loop, happening to thousands upon thousands of animals each and every day.
