GOAT FACTS

  • Goats are extremely playful, often forming very strong bonds with other animals or humans.
  • Goats carry their own signature bleats and mother and kid are able to recognize each others' call.
  • Goats will recognize their names and approach when called.
  • In nature, goats are far ranging and live in social herds.
  • Goats are highly inquisitive and will explore anything new or unfamiliar in their surroundings.
  • Goat's horizontal pupils help them spot predators from distance without having to move their heads.
  • Kids are able to follow their mothers almost as soon as they are born.
  • Goats are expert climbers with an amazing sense of balance.
  • Goats are browsers (rather than grazers) and like to eat a variety of plant foods including shoots, leaves, twigs and shrubs.
  • Goats are highly attentive mothers who often care for orphaned animals at farm sanctuaries - even if they aren't goats!
  • Goats are picky eaters and will rarely eat soiled or discarded food.
  • Both male and female goats can have horns or beards.
  • Goat life expectancy is up to eighteen years (but some sanctuary goats have been known to live into their twenties).
  • Goats carry an accent, with those in different countries having different sounding bleats.
  • Thanks to their great sense of balance, goats can often be seen standing on the backs of other animals.
  • Goats don't want to die any more than you or I would, and will try to avoid being killed.

You can see what happens to goats when we use them for meat, skin and dairy by clicking
on the red button below. Much of what you'll find is standard practice to the industry or
took place at humane assured facilities. It's not easy viewing, but if you still think it's fine
to use and kill these animals then I highly recommend taking a look. If instead you find
these things are simply too awful to look at then please ask yourself why, if you can't
even bear to look, is it okay to pay for them to happen?
