Thanks to little regulation or animal welfare standards, and the absence of regulations in many of the countries involved in their production, animals used for their skins are a particularly neglected group within the animal exploitation industries.
Just as we have no biological need to eat meat or other animal products, we of course have no need to wear
the skins of dead reptiles either. Sadly, as is so often the case, the immense suffering that goes into the production of these items is kept well hidden - and is wilfully ignored by those who purchase them.
